Hello Readers,

I have recently been reading and I came across a great book. It is called Al Capone does my shirts. It is about a boy living with his family on Alcatraz.

Before I go any further her is some background infomation:

Alcatraz: A prison that was located on San Francisco Bay from 1868-1963. Here the worst prisoner's were kept along with guards and their entire family. Now you can visit Alcatraz as a tourist.

Al Capone: A very bad American Gangster who was involved with the St. Valentine's Day Massacre.

Anyways this book is about a boy growing up on Alcatraz with a sister who has Autism. His dad works as a guard as well as the boy's neighbors. It is a very suspenseful book and also won teh Newbery Award.

Here are some other pictures not from the book:

(Prison Cell for the prisoners on Alcatraz)

Who has read this book? Also sometimes the prisoners would play baseball and the children   would catch the balls if they ever went over the gate.
One child even got to meet Al Capone.

I read this a very long time ago. Probably around 3rd grade or even younger. I remember enjoying it! Perhaps I will have to pick it up again. :)
